Dr. Ortiz has a broad spectrum of experience as well as the leadership and research experience to help him better serve his clients and patients. His experience begins in serving in military medical service, serving as the Chief of Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the Womack Army Medical Center in Fayetteville, dedicated to providing and ensuring efficient and successful performance of surgical services in a leading medical facility. Dr. Ortiz also deployed to Afghanistan in order to take on the role as the Chief of Surgery for the 14th Combat Support Hospital as well as serving as a professor in the Uniform Services University of Health Science and Methodist University Physician Assistant Program. He worked to teach and train health care practitioners and professionals in the military and public service. Additionally, Dr. Ortiz has had multiple scientific articles published and has worked on numerous scientific studies that improve the field of plastic surgery. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Dr. Ortiz founded North Raleigh Plastic Surgery.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he was inspired to go into medicine by his mother, a registered nurse. After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico as magna cum laude and as an ROTC distinguished military graduate, he went on to attend Ponce School of Medicine, where he completed his studies and training as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society for high educational achievement.

After graduating medical school, he finished a five-year general surgery residency and moved on to becoming a staff general surgeon in Fort Hood, Texas. He then moved on to completing a plastic surgery residency at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he felt he could make a larger impact on his patients' lives. Today, Dr. Ortiz maintains active membership in the North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
