Breast Implant Shapes

If you are considering breast implants, you have likely heard of the different implant shapes: round and teardrop. While both shapes come in a variety of sizes and profiles (the amount the implants project from the chest), each shape has its own advantages.

What is the Difference Between Round and Teardrop Breast Implants?

Round implants are the most popular option because it gives patients excellent fullness, lift, symmetry, and cleavage. They can be filled with silicone or saline. Patients with round implants are also less likely to experience health complications or have the implant rotate or move out of position. Another advantage to round implants is the fact that they are often more affordable than teardrop implants.

Teardrop implants do have their benefits, though. Because they are more narrow at the top (hence the “teardrop” name) and get fuller at the bottom, they often look more natural than round implants. Teardrop implants can only be filled with silicone, they are not available with saline. Teardrops are ideal for women who want the most natural look and are looking for mild lift. This type of implant can correct mild sagging, often eliminating the need for a breast lift, although a lift can be performed at the same time as an augmentation.
