Rhinoplasty, sometimes called a “nose job,†is the surgical procedure of changing the shape of the nose. While this is often done to make the nose more harmonious with the other facial features, such as reducing the size, it can also be performed to correct damage. Injury to the nose can cause chronic sinus and breathing problems, and rhinoplasty can repair it to help our patients breathe more easily. Is Rhinoplasty Right for You?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping a portion or the entire nose. Because it is highly customizable, our patients can have virtually any part of the nose reshaped, including the nostrils, tip or bridge of the nose, and even the area between the nose and lip.
Dr. Ortiz, our board-certified plastic surgeon, begins the proecdure by making small internal incisions inside the nose, though more extensive rhinoplasty may require external incisions. Depending on the intended outcome, cartilage and bone will be contoured or removed, while fillers can provide added fullness or roundness. While it's rare, in some reconstructive rhinoplasty, we may graft cartilage from the ear to reshape the nose.
Following the procedure, our patients can see the results of their surgery starting with the week later, as any swelling goes down. Scarring is often non-existent as even in the cases of having to perform external incisions, we take care to make them unnoticeable. We do want to note that rhinoplasty often leads to subtle changes that can make a positive impact on your overall appearance.
